my second first trimester
In case you missed the Instagram announcement… I’m pregnant again! I’m officially out of the first trimester now and onto the smooth sailing second. Going through pregnancy again, not to mention with a budding toddler to chase, has been interesting to say the least.
how to cloth diaper a newborn
Are you having a new baby and want to cloth diaper them from the very beginning? Congrats! And don’t worry, cloth diapering a newborn can be pretty simple, and very similar to cloth diapering an older baby. Earlier in our cloth diapering series we’ve talked about different types of cloth diapers and how to wash them, so feel free to look back if you missed something.
how to do disneyland with a baby
We first took Gideon to Disneyland just before he turned 2 months old. Some may think that’s too early to take him to such a crowded place, but he was a very healthy baby and we needed to get out of the house! Our whole friendship, dating relationship, and marriage had been spent going to California’s Magic Kingdom, so we knew it was the first big trip we wanted to take with our little one.
cloth diaper laundry routine
Cloth diapers obviously need to be washed. You could go the route of using a cloth diaper service, where they will pick up your dirty diapers at the end of each week and leave you with a bag of fresh ones. But if you’re doing cloth to save money, you’ll want to be washing your diapers yourself.
how i cloth diaper
As I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I cloth diaper my baby Gideon. To me it’s just a simple part of everyday life with a baby, but I know to those considering cloth diapering, it can be so intimidating! There is tons of information out there on the web about how you should cloth diaper, how to do it for cheap, how to do it the cutest way, how to wash your diapers, how to organize them, what you should use and what you should never use, etc etc etc.
valentine's day as a new mom
Did you just have a baby? Are you just about to? Is your baby walking? In school? No matter what phase of motherhood you’re in I bet you’re thinking about Valentine’s day today, at least a little. Especially if you’re married!
Motherhood can definitely put a damper on the romance though, especially if your kids are too young to get in on some cutesy heart crafts…. and too young to give mommy and daddy some alone time.
If this sounds like you, here’s my list of some ideas and tips you can use today with your honey!
setting boundaries for your baby
Picture it: your baby is playing happily by himself, babbling and slamming blocks together. You think here’s my chance, he seems occupied, I’m just going to go to the bathroom really quick!
You haven’t even pulled your pants up yet when you hear noises in the kitchen… and you run in to find your precious baby eating the cat’s food (yes this exactly has happened to me). You feel like mom of the year.
precious little sleep book review
There are so many different methods out there to sleep train your baby, it can be confusing to figure out what will work best. Every baby is different so what works for one baby might not work for another. That’s what Alexis Dubief aims to help with in her book Precious Little Sleep.
how to argue in front of your baby
As parents, our job is to teach our children how to become high functioning adults who are good members of society and hopefully strong believers in Christ. All of these things mean that we should not hide normal parts of life from our children, but instead teach them about them and how to do them well, even the less desirable parts of life.
why i'm picky about my baby's toys
There are so many toy options out there for babies! Some are colorful, some are black and white, some are loud, some are silent, some move around, some stay put. Whether you have words to explain it or not, all moms have some sort of choosiness about the toys they want for their baby. Maybe you want all of the toys to be organic, or maybe you want them all to be loud and fun, ensuring a smile every time from your little one. Maybe you want them to match your home or maybe you’re happy with whatever toys are given to your family from others.
My family loves Mediterranean food! We’ve actually had to stop ourselves from eating Greek inspired dinners for a week straight. Not only are the flavors delicious, but they use fresh ingredients, and they are easy and quick to make! We’ve also found that it’s pretty easy to feed Gideon our favorite foods cut up into bite sized pieces. One of his favorite foods is actually hummus!
what to wear while breastfeeding
Having a baby can change your whole life, including your wardrobe! Some moms like to make sure their clothes are cozy and soft for snuggling their little ones, and I know all baby moms can agree that fabrics and colors that don’t show drool or stains easily fill our closets. But breastfeeding your little one can present a different challenge: that of how to give that baby access to your breast.
homemade vegan pancakes
If you’ve read my Food Philosophy post (link) then you know that I eat mostly vegan and that I make as much from scratch as I can. One of my family’s staples is pancakes which means I make these from scratch rather than from a boxed mix. It really is super simple, so much so that mixes seem like a waste of money!
how to stay confident in your parenting choices
The moment you see that positive pregnancy test you are responsible for a whole new life. This responsibility comes with making lots and lots of choices. You’ll have to decide what kind of pregnancy care you want, where you want to give birth, choose a pediatrician, where your baby will sleep, breastmilk or formula, how you will swaddle, who gives baths, and on and on and on. As a new parent these choices are opening a whole new and unknown world of baby to you and it can be hard to stay confident in your choices, especially when other around you seem more knowledgeable and maybe even pushy.
how to use a solly wrap
If you’ve read my post about Minimalist Baby Essentials then you know I adored using my Solly Baby Wrap when Gideon was a newborn. Especially in the first weeks it was so simple to keep the wrap tied on me and place him in the wrap when we arrived at places like church or the grocery store. He was so snuggled and cozy, and he was nice and close so I always knew he was doing ok.
how to teach your baby about friendship
Friendship is such an important part of life! Friends are so much fun, a great outlet for stress, and accountability. Friends who have the same values as you (like Sarah and I!) are even better! However getting friends and keeping friends doesn’t always come naturally. I’m sure you, like me, have had some not-so-good friends sometime in your life. I want to make sure my children are great friends, so here are a couple of things I’m doing to help Gideon learn the importance of friendship.
kristin's food philosophy
The way I think about food has morphed drastically lately, starting when I got married and then again while I was pregnant. I grew up being very picky, not eating many vegetables or fruits and relying on staples like Mac and Cheese, King’s Hawaiian rolls, and Pop Tarts. I was happy with the way I ate and was not willing to try new things. I actually ate a strawberry for the first time in my adult life while in college!
parenting new year's resolutions
I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. I’m much more likely to research and make change and start fresh at any given time. I can admit though that the start of a calendar year is a great time to reflect back on the past year, and use that knowledge and experience to prepare yourself for the year ahead. At the start of 2019, my son Gideon is 8 months old. Looking back on the beginning of his life, I have a few things I want to keep in mind heading into this new year.
