moving with a toddler while pregnant

If you follow us on Instagram, you probably know that my family recently moved! Added to that, my son is 15 months old and I am 6 months pregnant! Sound crazy? It actually wasn’t too bad! Here are my tips for moving while pregnant and with a toddler.

cloth wipes

Cloth wipes seem to be intimidating to a lot of new cloth diapering mamas. Even my husband wasn’t sure if we should do it before we started! But to me cloth wipes and cloth diapering go hand in hand beautifully. In fact I don’t think I would like cloth diapering very much if we didn’t use cloth wipes!

sarah's favorite breastfeeding outfits

I love clothes.  I’ve spent a lot of time curating my minimalist, mostly grayscale wardrobe.  It took me a long time to figure out what I like and what feels best on me regardless of trends.  Now that I’m breastfeeding my little one, and will be probably for the next year (or more if we have another babe) it’s important to me that my clothes are functional as well as fashionable…

encouraging independent play

Independent play has been one of the top skills I wanted to teach my son from the very beginning. I’ve seen too many parents who can’t get anything done during the day because their children need them to play with them all day long. I’ve also seen how it can stifle creativity and overall independence in babies and kids.

cloth diapering while traveling

Yes, you can bring cloth diapers with you while on vacation!

I’ve travelled with both cloth and disposable, and both have their pros and cons. When I’ve been staying with family or at an AirBnb, there is usually a washer and dryer easily accessible. In these cases we usually are at the house for a decent amount of time during the trip anyway (if anything at least by the time baby goes down at night!).

cloth diapering on the go

Today is all about taking your cloth diapers on the go. A lot of people use cloth only at home and use disposable diapers when they head out of the house, and that’s totally fine! You do whatever works for you and your family. But! I’m here to tell you that it’s actually super easy to take cloth out of the house with you!

how to cloth diaper a newborn

Are you having a new baby and want to cloth diaper them from the very beginning? Congrats! And don’t worry, cloth diapering a newborn can be pretty simple, and very similar to cloth diapering an older baby. Earlier in our cloth diapering series we’ve talked about different types of cloth diapers and how to wash them, so feel free to look back if you missed something.

how to do disneyland with a baby

We first took Gideon to Disneyland just before he turned 2 months old. Some may think that’s too early to take him to such a crowded place, but he was a very healthy baby and we needed to get out of the house! Our whole friendship, dating relationship, and marriage had been spent going to California’s Magic Kingdom, so we knew it was the first big trip we wanted to take with our little one.

cloth diaper laundry routine

Cloth diapers obviously need to be washed. You could go the route of using a cloth diaper service, where they will pick up your dirty diapers at the end of each week and leave you with a bag of fresh ones. But if you’re doing cloth to save money, you’ll want to be washing your diapers yourself.

how i cloth diaper

As I’ve mentioned on the blog before, I cloth diaper my baby Gideon. To me it’s just a simple part of everyday life with a baby, but I know to those considering cloth diapering, it can be so intimidating! There is tons of information out there on the web about how you should cloth diaper, how to do it for cheap, how to do it the cutest way, how to wash your diapers, how to organize them, what you should use and what you should never use, etc etc etc.

setting boundaries for your baby

Picture it: your baby is playing happily by himself, babbling and slamming blocks together. You think here’s my chance, he seems occupied, I’m just going to go to the bathroom really quick!

You haven’t even pulled your pants up yet when you hear noises in the kitchen… and you run in to find your precious baby eating the cat’s food (yes this exactly has happened to me). You feel like mom of the year.

why i'm picky about my baby's toys

There are so many toy options out there for babies! Some are colorful, some are black and white, some are loud, some are silent, some move around, some stay put. Whether you have words to explain it or not, all moms have some sort of choosiness about the toys they want for their baby. Maybe you want all of the toys to be organic, or maybe you want them all to be loud and fun, ensuring a smile every time from your little one. Maybe you want them to match your home or maybe you’re happy with whatever toys are given to your family from others.

what to wear while breastfeeding

Having a baby can change your whole life, including your wardrobe! Some moms like to make sure their clothes are cozy and soft for snuggling their little ones, and I know all baby moms can agree that fabrics and colors that don’t show drool or stains easily fill our closets. But breastfeeding your little one can present a different challenge: that of how to give that baby access to your breast.

sarah's pre-baby parenting philosophy

As a first time parent-to-be there is so much I do not know.  The task of raising a child seems daunting and there are so many different styles and approaches to doing it “correctly.”

Somehow I managed to live my whole life without ever babysitting and I’m not around children a lot, so being a full-time mom is going to be a huge change for me.  For the first few months at least my only goal is to survive and make sure my newborn survives as well.

how to stay confident in your parenting choices

The moment you see that positive pregnancy test you are responsible for a whole new life. This responsibility comes with making lots and lots of choices. You’ll have to decide what kind of pregnancy care you want, where you want to give birth, choose a pediatrician, where your baby will sleep, breastmilk or formula, how you will swaddle, who gives baths, and on and on and on. As a new parent these choices are opening a whole new and unknown world of baby to you and it can be hard to stay confident in your choices, especially when other around you seem more knowledgeable and maybe even pushy.

how to use a solly wrap

If you’ve read my post about Minimalist Baby Essentials then you know I adored using my Solly Baby Wrap when Gideon was a newborn. Especially in the first weeks it was so simple to keep the wrap tied on me and place him in the wrap when we arrived at places like church or the grocery store. He was so snuggled and cozy, and he was nice and close so I always knew he was doing ok.

parenting new year's resolutions

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions. I’m much more likely to research and make change and start fresh at any given time. I can admit though that the start of a calendar year is a great time to reflect back on the past year, and use that knowledge and experience to prepare yourself for the year ahead. At the start of 2019, my son Gideon is 8 months old. Looking back on the beginning of his life, I have a few things I want to keep in mind heading into this new year.

why i sold my stroller and bought a new one

I am a heavy researching type of person, and while I was pregnant I kicked it into high gear. I researched for weeks what items I needed on my registry, and that was all before looking into advantages and disadvantages of different brands, styles, fabrics, colors, sizes of everything and anything. Needless to say I was stressed trying to get everything perfect for my first baby.
